My son is 7 months old and although it is early I need to start childproofing. What would you suggest I get and needs to be done? We have stairs and computer and all that. Kitchen is wide open.
Best Answer: make sure tables dont have sharp corners, the usual, outlet plug-ins, removable gates for stairs or steps, make sure wires (for computer) are not hanging, same with the sting to the blinds.....little figuines or decorations on coffetables should be removed...cabinet locks, child proof ones, of course chemicals and all that should be out of reach...and another thing to do is have guests take their shoes off outside so they dont track in dirt since your child will be all over the floor real soon, and make sure if something is dropped, that it is picked up immediately....nancy grace said she found a penny on the floor after company and nearly lost it...lol, its silly but very serious!heres a list i just looked up,

Either put a large gate (they do make them) over your kitchen, or you need to put locks on all of the lower cabinets and drawers. Literally get down and crawl around the floor so you see things from his level. Make sure book cases and the tv cabinet are anchored to the walls so he can’t topple them over. Gate off a computer area or lock the doors on it and keep the keyboard up high enough so he can’t reach it. Put corner guards on the coffee table or get rid of it all together for a year or two. Start to close the bathroom doors and put knob covers on them so he can’t open them.
Gates for the stairs, safety locks for cabnets, light socket covers. We have all of our bookcases and things bolted to the wall so they cant fall over….
Keep Meds out of Reach..
Put cupboard locks on all of the cupboards and drawers within reach, besides maybe your tupperware cupboard or drawers, littles ones love to have their own area of the kitchen. Definitely put gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, and any area you don’t want him to get into. Also, make it a habit to shut the bathroom door after yourself. Soon enough, you’ll also need knob covers so your son can’t open doors to get into the bathroom, or escape outside. I’d suggest putting lamps up, and hide cords and knick knacks, because once your son can pull up to furniture, he will get into anything and everything!
Get down on your hands and knees and tour your home. Pull on things and see if they’ll tip too easily. Put covers in the light sockets. Anchor the bookcases if they tip easily. Put latches on the inside of any cabinets you don’t want him in. Be careful when he starts checking everything out and fix what he finds to get into. No matter how well you childproof, your child will always find a few things you missed.
Make sure that there’s nothing near the counter tops in the kitchen and that there aren’t any cords that the baby can pull on or yank down. You should also get baby gates to block off rooms like the computer room or other areas where the baby shouldn’t go. Also, outlet covers are very important. You can find outlet covers almost anywhere. Lastly, get cabinet locks for your kitchen or a magnet system that only opens when a magnet is placing on the lock.
I would get a good baby gate, drawer/cabinet latches, outlet plugs, those window “stoppers” (can’t remember proper name) that keep the window from opening more than a couple of inches, toilet latch/lock. That’s what I use and all I could think of although I’m sure there’s more stuff you could get.

We started with the plug in covers, then put a gate up at the stairs and as far as cupboards I just put elastic bands around each knob. I tried not to go overboard as they need to experience things.
(oh yeah I did put up my favorite breakable vases)
