How did taking adhd medication (adult) affect your life?

I am curious as to how adults who are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD have responded to the medication. I have recently been diagnosed and am curious to see others experiences.

Thank you for taking the time to share.

Best Answer: I take Adderall and Adderall XR primarily because of a sleeping disorder but also for ADD.I was one of the people who started taking it and EVERYTHING changed, all in a good way. Part of it was the fact was that I did not sleep for 15-20hrs/day. But my way of thinking, focusing, working, doing anything changed. My grades got better, my social life got better, I was less reclusive, I went from a C- student to an A student. But aside from being tired I could not concentrate at all, random things would jump in my head and then be replaced by an equally strange thing. I would start to read a book and within 3 min be doing something else. I am 23 (diagnosed at 19) and still take it and even if most or all of the ADD would go away I would still need it to stay awake.

It helped (Ritalin) I took it for a short time only- around 6 months but it helped me focus and take back some control of my life. It also, did not cause weight gain or knock me out by bedtime as other medications have.

My nephew has a high iq, 133. He failed his first semester in high school. When he went on medication, his grades jumped back up to A’s and he has maintained them throughout the school year.

His mom doesn’t give him his medicine on the weekend but is considering it because he does so much better with it. He drinks a lot of coffee on the weekend and that helps.
