how many days after period should i do a breast self exam?

i read somewhere ” do breast self exam several days after your period ends, when your breasts are least likely to be swollen and tender”
what i want to know exactly is how many days “several days after period”, is it 3, 4, 5, or more days. it also said girls should do breast self exam every month on the same day starting at age 21.

thank you, your answers will be very helpful.!!!!!!!!!!

Best Answer: My doctor told me to do a breast exam the same number of days after my period *started*. Day 5-7 is about right (pick one). Breast tissue changes over the month so it's important to be consistant with the day into the cycle. She also suggested doing an exam daily for a couple of months so I would know how my breasts changed through the "month". It was helpful that I had just seen my doctor and she had done an exam; the normal , um, contours of my breast didn't freak me out because I knew they weren't the scary kind of lumps.

You should do it every night before bed.
Never in the shower because your muscles won’t be tense.
You have to lift one arm so the muscle is tense.
I guess for the same reasons you should do the bse while they are not tender. Just do it when they feel firm.
