The thing is am just not really sure if cardiothoracics is the actual name of the degree or is it Cardiology…..
Best Answer: You don't understand how medical education works. You don't "major" in either of those. You do a residency in one or the other (actually a fellowship, as those are both subspecialties).The procedure is:Bachelors degree in anything - usually 4 yrs
Medical school - 4 years
Residency + fellowship
* Internal medicine (3 yrs) + cardiology (3+ yrs) = cardiologist
* General surgery (5-7 yrs) + CT surg fellowship (3 yrs) = CT surgeonYou don't need to decide on a subspecialty until you're nearing the end of either your medicine or surgery residency.

cardiothoracics surgery is different from cardiology
in cadiothoracic you study how to perform surgery in the thorax area of the body ( heart included) in cardiology you will study diseases of the heart as in cardiothoracics but you will no be able to perform surgery……….sure cardiothoracics is much longer to study
