if i had avian flu (bird flu) will it help with immunity towards other flu?

with all this swine flu talk lately, it made me think about the time i had bird flu when i was 12. it was absolutely awful and i was horribly sick for a week with a week’s recovery period. however, ever since then, i haven’t had the flu, nor a flu shot. every now and again i’ll get a little cold, but nothing severe.

anyone know about flu antibodies/immunity? would me having bird flu while young make me immune, or at least make it hard for me to catch any flu at all?

No, it’s an entirely different virus. Sorry.

You would likely be immune to the specific strain that you were infected with before and possibly a couple similar strains. But the thing about the flu is it’s a highly mutative virus, changing all the time. It is unlikely that you are completely immune to getting the regular flu or H1N1.
