If you run, will you have the same cardio fitness if you do swimming?

I mean that if you have a jogger who wants to switch to swimming, will he have the same cardio for swimming?

Best Answer: Swimming engages every muscle in the body, whereas running is largely leg-exclusive. A runner's heart and conditioning is probably up to the task of switching to swimming, but his/her arms and back might have some catching-up to do before they are up to the task.

The cardio will be similar but he will get much more strength training at the same time while swimming.

    Two words:

    Michael.
    Phelps.

I’ll bet his resting heart rate is about 40.
