which scientist discovered Cleft Palate and where was it discovered?

This is for a parenting class I am taking. I cannot find this answer anywhere. It’s one of the many birth defects. Cleft Palate is almost similar to Cleft lip I believe.

Best Answer: There is evidence of the deformity as far back as 500 AD and recordings of possible attempts at crude repair in the 1500's. But not until the late 1700's was any successful repair documented. In 1764 French dentist, Le Monnier successfully repaired a cleft velum, (hard palate at the lip) with a few sutures and a hot cauter.*Fifty years later, German surgeon and ophthalmologist, Friedrich Wilhelm von Graefe is credited with the first successful surgical repair of a cleft palate, (hard and soft palate,) in 1816.*Surgeon, J.C. Warren was credited with the same in the US in 1824.
